On August 20, 1956, the Lakeport City Council passed Ordinance #345, officially creating the first Lakeport Planning Commission.
A bold move to give local residents a say in how the city would grow, develop, and protect its character.
Led by Mayor Orville R. Weese, the first commission appointments set the tone for Lakeport’s future:
Clarence H. Allomong – 1-year term
Vernon E. Knowles – 2-year term
James P. Edwards – 3-year term
Robert Nylander & Wesley O. Lampson – 4-year terms

Two non-voting city employees: Bruce B. Bruchler and Robert H. Madeiros
It was the beginning of Lakeport’s modern planning legacy and set the tone for a Lakeport that grows with intention.
