DESCRIPTION:THE LAKE COUNTY OUTDOOR PASSION PLAY\nMAY 16th & 17th\, 2026\n7010 Westlake Road\nUpper Lake\, CA 95485\n707-263-0349\n\n\nThe play is presented in its entirety on both days (Saturday and Sunday in May\, the weekend following Mother’s Day).\n\n\nTime: 4:00 p.m.\nThe play lasts about 2 hours.\n\n\nLOCATION:\nThe Passion Play Grounds are located at 7010 Westlake Road\, Upper Lake\, CA 95485 (off Highway 29\, about 7 miles north of Lakeport in Lake County).\nThe sweeping vistas offered by our shoreline location in Upper Lake add great beauty and depth to our production.\nNestled in the foothills of Lake County\, just 2-1/2 hours north of San Francisco\, and 2 hours northwest of Sacramento\, you will find Clear Lake — California’s largest natural fresh water lake.\n\n\nAdmission is free.\n\n\nPlease call us if you have questions\, 707-263-0349.\n\n\nPlease bring your own chair.\n\n\nNo smoking\, food\, drinks\, or pets are allowed on the grounds. Fresh spring water is available.\n\n\nThe earliest dramatic representations of the Crucifixion\, in Latin verse\, were given early in the 13th Century. One hundred years later\, Passion Plays were being performed by amateur players in both German and French. At the height of their popularity\, in the middle of the 15th Century\, they had developed into elaborate productions requiring three days to perform.\n\n\nOf the passion Plays performed in modern times\, the best known is one dating from 1634 at Oberammergau in the Bavarian Alps. In 1939\, some immigrants from Germany presented the first performance of the Black Hills Passion Play in Spearfish\, South Dakota.\n\n\nMore than 150 players re-enact this most touching of dramas. Mounted Roman soldiers sweep across the 1\,000 foot stage; sheep wander across the hillside; a powerful sound system carries the dialogue faithfully drawn from Matthew\, Mark\, Luke\, and John. A talented team of directors\, producers\, and costume designers work throughout the year to create this experience.\n\n\nThe Passion Play is not a spectacle. Rather\, it is a prayerful expression of the faith of the people involved.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nlakecountypassionplay.org
